The goal in diagnosis of disorders associated with sexual precocity (Fig. 13.38) is to eliminate the possibility of life-threatening brain tumours or other central nervous system conditions and to therefore separate these patients from those with idiopathic precocious puberty. If the possibility of a central nervous system tumour has not been eliminated due to an alternative diagnosis, patients with precocious puberty should have a computerised tomography (CT) scan or an magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) evaluation of the brain.
